NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After rain and storms produced localized flooding on Sunday, we now turn our attention to heat and storms ahead this week.

On Monday, expect some more scattered showers and storms with highs in the upper 80s.

As for Tuesday, a Marginal Risk for severe weather has been issued across the majority of the region. Make sure to stay weather alert as the biggest storm threats will be gusty winds and heavy rain.

But dangerous heat may be the real story starting Tuesday and lasting the rest of the workweek.

As temperatures climb into the mid and even upper 90s, dewpoints (a measure of humidity) will be oppressive, running in the mid-70s. That will push the heat index to 105° and higher.

If you are working or playing outdoors, you should wear light-colored clothing and a hat, take frequent breaks in the shade, and drink plenty of water.

Our only relief may come in the way of occasional storms which will be dropping in from the north, as our upper-level flow around a high-pressure center in Texas pushes storms southward.

Those occasional storms are expected to add 1-2″ of rain from Monday-Sunday for most of Middle TN and south KY, with around a half inch near the Tennessee River.
