Wet Sunday; Severe Weather Monday & Tuesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Scattered showers and storms will start Sunday morning and last throughout the first half of the work week. A Marginal Risk (level 1/5 ) for severe weather has been issued for Monday and Tuesday across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. The biggest storm threats will include heavy rain and gusty winds.

On Sunday, scattered storms and showers will pick up through the mid-morning. By lunchtime, widespread showers will take over the mid-state. Scattered storms are likely in the afternoon. Most of the rain will have cleared by 10 p.m. The biggest storm threat will be localized flooding. Limit driving on Sunday if possible and remember: turn around, don’t drown.

On Monday, a Marginal Risk for severe weather has been issued along and north of Interstate 40. Afternoon storms could be strong with gusty winds and heavy rain.

A complex storm system will move over Arkansas and storms will sneak into Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky before falling apart. This means that storms will develop to the north and northwest. The storms with the highest chance of being severe will come in through the afternoon.

As for Tuesday, a Marginal Risk for severe weather has been issued across the majority of the region. Make sure to stay weather alert as the biggest storm threats will be gusty winds and heavy rain.

Severe thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday afternoon. Storms will have plenty of energy to tap into with temperatures having reaching into the mid to upper 90s. This is likely one of the reasons the Marginal Risk is more widespread on Tuesday.

One to three inches of rainfall accumulation are possible from Sunday all the way into Tuesday. Some spots will get more rain, which could lead to the chance for localized flooding.

The other big weather headline is dangerous heat through the middle of the work week. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90s on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The heat index will be 100 to 105 degrees. A Heat Advisory may have to be issued.
