Vince Gill is widely regarded as a brilliant songwriter, a top-notch singer, and one of the nicest guys in Nashville. Additionally, the “One More Last Chance” singer can absolutely shred the guitar. Gill learned to play “Old Shep” on his grandmother’s guitar at just 5 years old. Afterwards, the future GRAMMY winner would often bring the instrument to his Oklahoma elementary school and entertain classmates with “House of the Rising Sun.” However, even the most seasoned guitarists wish for a do-over sometimes. Keep reading to find out which guitar solo Vince Gill would re-record if he could.

Vince Gill Wants Another Shot at Recording This Guitar Solo

In a September 2023 interview with Vulture, Vince Gill shared a valuable lesson he learned as a young artist.

“I played a solo on something, and the producer came on the talkback and goes, ‘Man, that was impressive. Can I ask you to try it one more time?'” Gill said. “‘This time, just play me half of what you know.'”

Certain songs require a certain guitar style, Gill said. For example, the country star’s 1991 hit “Liza Jane” calls for “that busier kind of solo.”

“’One More Last Chance’” needs that kind of solo,” Gill continued. “But a solo on ‘Whenever You Come Around,’ it’s more melody-driven and not a whole bunch of information.”

Ultimately, Gill said, there is no “right” way to approach a guitar solo.

“It’s all a matter of what somebody is drawn to — some people love to hear shredders, they just love all that stuff,” said the 18-time CMA Award winner. “I never did. My way’s not right, it’s just my way.”

Christmas Is Coming Early For Country Music Fans

Vince Gill and wife Amy Grant are Nashville’s king and queen of Christmas music. The couple’s annual series of holiday concerts has become one of the most successful Ryman Auditorium residencies. Later this year, fans won’t have to travel to Nashville to hear these Yuletide hits.

When I Think Of Christmas hits shelves Sept. 13 and includes nine tracks previously released by Grant and Gill, along with two new recordings.

“There’s nothing in the world that I love more than watching @amygrantofficial shine, and she might shine the brightest when she does Christmas music,” Gill wrote on Instagram. “We have shared stages together for over 30 years and I’ve loved every note of it.”
