Eric Church Delivers Awesome Cover Of Toby Keith’s “As Good as I Once Was” At Nashville Tribute Show

The cover I actually needed.

Last night, tons of country stars like Eric Church, Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, Jamey Johnson and more performed as part of the benefit concert dubbed American Icon: Toby Keith. Proceeds from ticket sales also went on to benefit both The Toby Keith Foundation’s OK Kids Korral and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Easily one of my favorite covers was by Chief, who took the stage to perform Keith’s 2005 hit “As Good as I Once Was.”

Written by Keith along with Scotty Emerick, it perfectly captures his humor and outlook on life, as well as knack for unique and catchy country songs. It was included on his 2005 Honkytonk University album, and became a #1 hit on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart and one of his signature songs.

Eric was the perfect pick for this song, and I can’t wait to see the full performance when it airs on TV:

Luckily for all of us who weren’t able to be there in person, the show will air on NBC as a two-hour special on Wednesday, August 28th featuring many of the star-studded performances.
