NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One Nashville man is in custody for multiple vehicle-related crimes, according to Metro Police.

Tuesday’s arrest of 21-year-old Derryon Lyons marks the third time that Lyons has been arrested since May. Metro Police said in a release that Lyons was identified as the man seen on surveillance video in a 3rd Avenue South parking garage.

He was arrested after Metro police placed a tracking device on his vehicle.

There, he allegedly broke into several vehicles before stealing a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Later investigation led to recovery of not just the Jeep, but also a gun that had been taken in a County Hospital Road vehicle burglary on July 23.

At the time of Lyons’ arrest, Metro police said that he was free on a $14,000 bond stemming from a July 13 arrest on charges of felony evading arrest, evidence tampering and unlawful gun possession.

During that July 13 arrest, Lyons reportedly sped away after a Metro officer tried to stop him. That car matched the description of a vehicle that had been used to commit several vehicle burglaries in the days prior. Using a helicopter, Metro police found and arrested Lyons, but not before he tried to hide a gun in a barbecue grill.

At the time of the July 13 arrest, Lyons was free on a $1,500 bond stemming from a May 2 arrest for domestic assault.

During a search of Lyons’ residence on Tuesday, detectives were able to recover another gun and property taken in a Sunday vehicle burglary. As of print, Lyons remains in jail on a $90,000 bond.

Lyons’ arrest is part of the Metro Nashville Police Department’s” Operation 72.” Since February, the department said the operation has led to the recovery of over 345 stolen vehicles and more than 130 guns.
