Could Tennessee Titans UDFA kicker challenge for Nick Folk's job?

As the kicker position has flown under the radar during Tennessee Titans training camp because of the presence of reliable veteran kicker Nick Folk, an undrafted free agent named Brayden Narveson managed to stand out recently.

According to Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com , Narveson handled kicking duties earlier this week and made all six of his field goal attempts, with those makes coming from 32, 36, 39, 40, 45 and 49. Those are the only field goals he has attempted in camp to date.

Unfortunately for Narveson's hopes of making this a competition, Folk has been his usual elite self in training camp, with the 39-year-old having made 10-of-11 attempts so far, per Wyatt .

Of course, we are still in the early stages of camp, but is it possible that Narveson can do enough moving forward to supplant Folk if he keeps this up? The short answer is: No.

It would take a monumental collapse or injury for Folk to lose his job, with the former being extremely unlikely given his elite level of play in recent years.

Parting with Folk and going with the rookie would save the Titans money, sure, but it's not like Tennessee needs it with the team having $24.1 million in cap space, per Over the Cap .

Adding to that, cutting Folk would only save $255,000. The real savings would come if the team trades him, which would create $2 million in additional cap space.

However, if Folk goes through the type of collapse we mentioned above, chances are there wouldn't be any takers out there.

Even if the UDFA continues to impress, the best he can hope for is a spot on the practice squad, which is certainly possible because the Titans might be thinking about the future at the position considering Folk's age.

That said, it's also possible Narveson won't pass through waivers if he keeps standing out, but that's simply something the Titans would have to live with.
