Strong storms Friday ahead of brief relief from heat

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After an an active week of weather, Friday is no different with strong storms in the forecast across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky.

The Storm Prediction Center has our area under a risk from now until late Friday night. This is a Marginal Risk (1/5) for eastern portions of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. However, this threat may shift back west toward Interstate 65.

Through Friday night, the primary storm threats are damaging winds and heavy rain. Hail and even an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out with any storm.

This afternoon and evening, storms will increase with the cold front. The area where storms will likely occur is mainly east of I-65.

The heat and humidity is still an issue today, but there are no heat alerts in the News 2 viewing area. Feels like temperatures will approach and reach above 100° into the afternoon.

After this cold front comes through, a slight drop in the humidity is expected for the weekend. However, it will remain warm with highs in the low 90s.

Next week, we are on track for another round of hot temperatures. This will mean feels like temperatures will approach 105° or higher next week.
