RUSHFORD – “If you take anything away from this presentation today, it’s this: get your well tested,” Tannie Eshenaur told southeast Minnesotans earlier this summer. Eshenaur, the Water Policy Center Manager at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), spoke to private well owners at a June Nitrate Open House – part of its education and outreach efforts related to groundwater pollution in southeast Minnesota. The meeting was held at the Rushford-Peterson school; additional meetings were held recently in Stewartville, Mazeppa and online.

Dump truck fire at Minntac early Monday morning
U.S. Steel confirmed a fire on one of their dump trucks at Minntac in Mt. Iron. This was early Monday morning, in a remote section of the mine. The company said the driver followed all the procedures and was able to get out of the truck safely. No one was injured.

COLERAINE, Minn. — Police are investigating after a driver in northern Minnesota hit two pedestrians who were walking on a highway early Monday morning.The Minnesota State Patrol says a driver in a Chevy Monte Carlo had been traveling southbound on Highway 169 near Coleraine in Itasca County at 1:25 a.m.The vehicle was in the left lane of the highway when it struck two pedestrians who were walking in the southbound lane, according to the crash report.One of the pedestrians died while the other was airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
