Fatal Fire In Duluth Early Thursday
DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A fire Thursday morning in a seven unit apartment building in the 600 block of 47th Avenue East has claimed the life of one of the occupants. The Duluth Fire Department responded to the report of a fire around 2:30 a-m to find no visible flames and light smoke in the first floor hallway of the structure.

At Least 4 Deaths Reported on Minnesota Roads Since Monday
(KROC-AM News) - There have now been at least four traffic deaths reported in Minnesota since Monday. The most recent tragic incident occurred 10:45 AM Tuesday in far western Minnesota. A preliminary report from the State Patrol indicates a small passenger car collided with a semi-truck on Highway 75 in Traverse County about 10 miles north of Ortonville.

Great Lakes Region- The Detroit District is hosting its 9th annual photo contest highlighting U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites. The top 12 photographs will earn a spot in next year’s calendar. Submissions are due on July 31 with winners being chosen via social media. The Soo Locks Visitors Center Association will also award the top three photographers a plaque featuring their winning photos.
Another great day at the Grand Rapids Speedway
GRAND RAPIDS— Grand Rapids Speedway held another great day of racing on Thursday. This race there were no WISSOTA Modifieds, but were WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Hornets, Pure Stocks, Late Models, Supers and Northern Renegade Sprint Cars. At intermission there were kids power wheel races which were also very competitive. Mavrik Wohlers, Kyah Krzoska, Colt Broking and Kane Massingill all had a great time and made it to victory lane in their power wheels getting an early start to their future racing career! Cobie School and Vetta Perrin also were big winners after they were chosen to take home a bike. ...

Minnesota Looking to Increase Numbers of This Animal
The Minnesota DNR in collaboration with the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa plan to move elk from the northwestern part of the state to the northeastern part of the state near Cloquet and north. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON. He says the plan is to transfer 15 to 20 elk from the northwestern part of the state to the northeastern part with the hopes of growing the herd. Schmitt says elk used to live in that part of the state many years ago. He explains the plan is to do this annually starting in 2026 until the elk reproduce on their own.

Kansas City, MO – The Midwest is set to experience extreme heat in early August, with temperatures significantly above normal across the region. The US National Weather Service has issued a forecast predicting a widespread heatwave from August 1-7. According to the NWS, this heatwave will encompass much of the Midwest, pushing daytime highs into the upper 90s and low 100s.
