(CNN) — New York’s attorney general and the local affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union are both separately suing a New York county after it again banned transgender women from playing on female sports teams.
NY weather: Air quality alert for Suffolk and Nassau counties Tuesday
An air quality alert was issued in effect until Tuesday at 11 p.m. for Suffolk and Nassau counties. "An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk until 11 p.m. this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The Nassau County bill was signed into law on Monday, July 15. Introduced by Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman — whose February executive order with the same goals prompted backlash and was quickly struck down — the bill requires sports teams to designate whether they are a female, male, or co-ed team and prevents “biological males” from competing on women’s teams at the more than 100 county-run athletic facilities.
