Two More Members of Armed Robbery Crew Sentenced to 10 Years for Chicago Crime Spree

    2024-08-29

Four men admit to multiple robberies across Chicago during December 2022 crime wave

CHICAGO — Two additional members of a notorious armed robbery crew have been sentenced to ten years in prison for their involvement in a series of robberies that terrorized Chicago during the winter of 2022. Marcus Carter, 22, and Dashun McGraw, 21, both pleaded guilty to multiple counts of robbery, joining two co-defendants who had previously admitted to their roles in the crime wave.

The crew's criminal activities occured over two days, December 11 and 12, 2022, and were characterized by a judge as a "relentless crime spree" involving repeated armed robberies. The group's method involved cornering victims who were seated in parked vehicles, drawing firearms, and forcibly taking their valuables. Their actions left a trail of shaken victims across several Chicago neighborhoods.

On December 12, 2022, the crew's crime spree continued early in the morning when a 42-year-old man was targeted while sitting in his car in the 4300 block of North Leavitt. Four men approached him in a silver sedan, brandished firearms, and stole his phone and wallet. The group quickly moved on to their next target, a 20-year-old man in the 2400 block of West Berwyn in Lincoln Square. The robbers rifled through the victim's car, stealing valuables before escaping in the same silver vehicle. This particular robbery was captured on surveillance video, adding to the evidence against them.

Shortly after, the crew struck again, this time robbing a man who was unloading his car in the 3100 block of West Leland. During this incident, one of the robbers physically assaulted the victim, striking him in the face before fleeing the scene in their silver sedan.

Prosecutors charged the crew with four additional robberies that occurred in rapid succession, including two on the 2100 block of North Claremont, one on the 4100 block of North Wolcott, and another on the 1100 block of West 31st Street. Despite the crew's extensive criminal activities, several similar holdups that occurred during the same period did not result in charges, and dozens of reported robberies from the days leading up to their arrest remain unprosecuted.

The sentences handed down by Judge Tyria Walton reflect the severity of the crew's actions. On Wednesday, Marcus Carter pleaded guilty to seven counts of robbery and was sentenced to ten years for each count, to be served concurrently. His co-defendant, Dashun McGraw, received an identical sentence last month after entering a similar plea. The other two members of the crew, Marquise Green and Marchello Hicks, both 22, pleaded guilty earlier this year and also received ten-year sentences from Judge Walton.

All four men will be credited for the time they have already spent in custody and are eligible for a 50% reduction in their sentences for good behavior.
