The shootings, which took place in the Washington Park, Englewood, aSouth Shore, Washington Heights neighborhoods, highlight the persistent and deadly violence plaguing the area.
Fatal Shooting in Washington Park
On Saturday morning, Chicago police reported the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man in the Washington Park neighborhood. The incident occurred just after 11 a.m. in the 5700 block of South Prairie Avenue. According to authorities, the man was outside when two individuals exited a black SUV and opened fire. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made, and detectives are actively investigating the case. Police have yet to release additional details, leaving many questions unanswered in the wake of the fatal shooting.
Englewood Neighborhood Attack Leaves Three Wounded
On Friday night, three men were injured in a drive-by shooting in the Englewood neighborhood. The attack took place in the 6000 block of South Princeton Avenue around 10:48 p.m. According to reports, the victims—aged 27, 35, and 39—were seated in a parked car when two armed individuals approached and opened fire before fleeing on foot.
The victims were transported to local hospitals, each suffering from gunshot wounds to the legs and buttocks. All three are reportedly in stable condition, but no arrests have been made, and police continue to search for the shooters.
Woman Fatally Shot in South Shore, Suspect in Custody
Gun violence also claimed the life of 43-year-old Tatanisha Jackson in the South Shore neighborhood on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred inside a residential building in the 6800 block of South Cornell Avenue when a 17-year-old boy reportedly shot Jackson multiple times in the head. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
The shooter fled the scene immediately, but police recovered a firearm at the location. On Friday afternoon, a person of interest was taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet filed charges or identified the suspect publicly.
Eyewitness Ronald Jackson, who works nearby, described hearing multiple rounds of gunfire. “Everything was peaceful, and then out of nowhere, shots let off,” he recalled. "We hear like eight shots. After the eight shots, I'm like, 'No, that wasn't no gunshots.' Then it was six more."
Washington Heights Shooting Claims Another Life, Suspect in Custody
In a separate incident earlier in the week, another woman was shot and killed in the Washington Heights neighborhood. The shooting occurred early Tuesday morning outside a residence near 101st Street and Aberdeen Street. The victim, a 37-year-old woman, was inside her home when gunfire erupted. She was struck in the chest and transported to Christ Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police quickly identified the suspect, 38-year-old Ismael Williams, who has since been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. Williams was arrested and made his first court appearance on Thursday.
