Chicago Teachers Union and CPS Resume Contract Negotiations

Mayor Johnson again demands CEO Martinez's resignation amid ongoing bargaining talks

CHICAGO — The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) and Chicago Public Schools (CPS) will return to the negotiating table on Tuesday to discuss a new contract. The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Cameron Magnet School of the Arts, located at 1234 N. Monticello Ave, and will be open to the public.

This development comes as CPS CEO Pedro Martinez faces mounting calls for his resignation, including from Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. Martinez’s supporters plan to rally at Benito Juarez High School at 11 a.m. on Tuesday to protest the mayor's push to remove Martinez, accusing Johnson of targeting him "for doing his job."

Mayor Johnson formally asked Martinez to step down last week. Martinez declined, insisting that the Chicago Board of Education weigh in before he considers any further action. Martinez has two years remaining on his contract, which was approved by the Board in 2021.

The timing of the mayor’s request has raised concerns about possible conflicts of interest. The CTU, which remains a major supporter of Johnson and a former employer, is engaged in sensitive contract negotiations with CPS. The union has issued a vote of no confidence in Martinez as he works to stabilize the district’s budget.

As both sides continue to negotiate, Martinez's future remains a point of contention.

Remember two Chicago teachers involved in the shooting at six park. 17 employees from the school involved with ppp Covid fraud loans. Along with the union president committed tax fraud insurance fraud prejury and not one criminal charge brought forward. They own BrandonAlong with 21 million dollars worth of computers missing and union sends her son to a private high school instead of a cps 🏫. Here's where charges are needed
