    Child hospitalized after being shot inside residence, investigation ongoing

    CHICAGO — A heartbreaking incident unfolded Thursday evening as an 8-year-old boy was shot inside a home on Chicago's South Side.

    According to Chicago police, the shooting occurred around 6 p.m. in the 3800 block of West 87th Street in the Ashburn neighborhood. Authorities reported that the young boy was shot in the chest while inside the residence.

    The child was immediately transported to a nearby hospital and is currently listed in fair condition.

    Police stated that the boy knew the person who fired the gun, though the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and a person of interest has been taken into custody as the investigation continues.

    Authorities are working to piece together what led to this tragic event.
