CHICAGO — A man is in the hospital after a shooting involving Chicago police early Saturday morning on the Southwest Side. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 3900 block of South Kedzie Avenue in the Brighton Park neighborhood.

Chicago police officers were called to the scene following a report of an aggravated assault involving a firearm at a nearby business. Upon arrival, they encountered a man who, according to police, drew a gun. As officers attempted to disarm him, the man allegedly fired his weapon.

An officer on the scene returned fire, striking the man. Officers immediately began administering aid before the suspect was transported to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, but it remains unclear whether the altercation occurred inside the business. No officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is investigating the incident, and Chicago police confirmed that the officers involved will be placed on standard administrative duties for at least 30 days. The department stated it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact COPA at 312-746-3609 or leave a tip online.
