CHICAGO — In an unexpected turn of events, Taylor Swift's loyal fan base, known as the Swifties, have taken a clear stance in the ongoing rivalry between basketball stars Iowa standout Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky star Angel Reese. The Swifties have firmly aligned themselves with Clark after a tweet of hers resurfaced, igniting buzz across social media platforms.

The now-viral post, which has been widely shared among Swift’s fans, features Clark welcoming the pop icon to her beloved Kansas City Chiefs. "Taylor Swift welcome to the good side," Clark wrote in the tweet, tagging her message with the hashtag "Chiefs Kingdom."

As a lifelong fan of the Chiefs, Clark’s tweet came at a time when Swift’s highly publicized relationship with the team’s tight end, Travis Kelce, had just become official. Swift’s massive fanbase, always on the lookout for loyal allies, quickly adopted Clark as one of their own, sharing and reposting the tweet across countless social media fan accounts in a surge of Swiftie enthusiasm.

The timing of this allegiance comes on the heels of a podcast episode hosted by Chicago Sky basketball star, Angel Reese, where she invited Kayla Nicole, Kelce’s ex-girlfriend, to discuss their past relationship on the "Unapologetically Angel" podcast. Nicole, who dated Kelce for five years before their breakup in 2022, candidly opened up about how the new high-profile romance between Kelce and Swift has impacted her.

"We've seen each other in public spaces before," Nicole said of her encounters with Kelce, "but... there's just no room really for us to communicate or acknowledge each other publicly without it being spun into something crazy."

Nicole, who has faced a significant amount of online negativity since the breakup, spoke emotionally about the toll it has taken on her. "I would be lying if I said that that level of hate and just, like, online chaos doesn't impact me," she shared. "You can go to my most recent post, and it will be people debating each other why I am worthless... and I have no career."

Reese, who has faced backlash for featuring Nicole in her podcast episode, was quick to defend herself against the criticism. Responding on social media, she posted, "hating pays too," a message that only intensified the online drama between her and the Swifties.

As Swift’s fans threw their support behind Clark, dubbing her the “winner” of the rivalry, the history between Clark and Reese continues to fuel public interest. The two basketball stars first faced off during the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship, where Clark led Iowa and Reese represented LSU. Both players have since become top contenders in their rookie seasons, with Clark winning the Rookie of the Year title after Reese’s late-season injury affected her ability to play.
