    Seven-year-old hospitalized after expressway shooting

    CHICAGO, IL – A seven-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after being shot on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Sunday morning. Illinois State Police reported that the incident occurred in the northbound lanes of I-94 at 73rd Street around 2:40 a.m.

    An unidentified individual fired shots from a vehicle on the expressway, one of which struck the child. The boy was a passenger in a car at the time. The driver pulled over at 22nd Street and Michigan Avenue to call for assistance.

    Chicago fire officials transported the boy to a local hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries. The northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway were temporarily closed at 71st Street during the investigation but reopened by 5 a.m.

    Authorities have not released further information, and it is unclear if any suspects are in custody. The investigation remains ongoing.
