    Home invasion leads to fatal shooting in Chicago South Austin neighborhood


    CHICAGO – A suspected intruder was fatally shot during a home invasion on Chicago's West Side early Wednesday morning, according to local authorities.

    The incident occurred in the 700 block of Laramie Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood around 6:41 a.m. Chicago police reported that two individuals forced entry into a residence, leading to a confrontation with a 23-year-old woman inside the home. The woman, who possessed a valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card, armed herself as the suspects brandished their own weapons.

    An exchange of gunfire ensued, during which one of the male suspects was struck in the chest. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported from the incident.

    Chicago police Area Four detectives have initiated a homicide investigation.
