Do you like looking at glass art? Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle, Washington is an exhibit that showcases the inspirations and influences of Dale Chihuly’s glass art. The exhibit opened in 2012 and featured Eight Galleries, the Glasshouse, Collection Cafe, the Garden, and Theater. I learned about this exhibit from the gorgeous Instagram posts from my friends. This made me add Chihuly Garden and Glass onto my list of places to visit in Seattle. It was just recent that my boyfriend and I had our trip to Washington and Oregon. I have to say that this was one of my loveliest experiences of seeing such gorgeous art during our stay in Seattle.

The Eight Galleries are a comprehensive collection of Dale Chihuly’s series of work. We enjoyed seeing how Chihuly pushed his boundaries through his concept, execution, and presentation. The exhibit also includes the immersive drawing walls. The eight galleries were a great introduction to Chihuly’s creativity and I just wanted to see more. My boyfriend and I were in awe with the glass pieces that were hanging from the ceilings. We wonder how the walls can lift and hold these pieces in place for so long.

The Glasshouse is a 40 foot tall and 100 foot long installation that covers 4,500 square feet. The gorgeous color palettes are made with ambers, oranges, reds, and yellows. Natural lighting is key for this piece and also as the day fades to night. This was my personal favorite from the whole exhibition. The changing of the lights in the room was mesmerizing and how it reflects from the glass. It had such a spectacular range of colors and it took my breath away. It also reminded me of being in the ocean with the coral reefs. I can understand why this is the popular photo section of the exhibition.

The Collection Cafe is a 90-seat cafe that is indoors, but also has additional outdoor dining at the Art Plaza. The Collection Cafe is unfortunately closed due to the regulations of COVID-19 and indoor dining. My boyfriend and I got hungry after our exploration of the city and the exhibit we decided to grab a bite or two at the Art Plaza. We ordered two flatbread pizzas. The pizzas were crafted with passion and love from the staff. There were so many flavors from both of the pizzas that we couldn’t even choose a favorite. But then sometimes they say that hunger is the best spice! I love that everything is made out of art and experience here. The outdoor dining area also provided live entertainment and classes for tourists.

The Garden is a gorgeous floral space and walkway. The idea of pairing nature and glass art as one is brillant. The Camellias gave the lavish green garden with a pop of many colors. This also was one of the best views of the Space Needle from overhead. I admire the time and work that Chihuly had put together in coordinating the garden. The garden exits into the multi-use theater. The theater provides 50 seats and short videos of the process of blowing glass. The theater is also used for other mediums such as community events and lectures.
