NATCHEZ — A Ferriday, Louisiana, man allegedly tried to set his ex-girlfriend’s apartment on fire in Natchez Sunday night.

Natchez Police Commander Jerry Ford said his officers arrested Kimonte Leonard, 20, of 27393 Highway 15, Ferriday, on charges of aggravated assault, four counts of burglary, and one count of grand larceny.

The fire was set in an apartment at Susie B. West Apartments Sunday night.

Ford said Leonard allegedly tried to set the apartment on fire by lighting a t-shirt on fire inside the apartment.

“He broke into the apartment last night and stole three pairs of Jordan tennis shoes and a 45-inch Roku TV,” Ford said. “About a month ago, he came through the bedroom window of one of her children and destroyed her 65-inch TV.”

Leonard is expected to go before a judge in the Municipal Court in Natchez later today.
