    Former Natchez businessman indicted for tax evasion, embezzlement

    NATCHEZ, Miss ( WJTV ) – A former Natchez businessman was taken into custody in Adams County after he was indicted for tax evasion and embezzlement.

    The Natchez Democrat reported Ryan Mullen was arrested on Roberts Road in Jayess on Monday, June 17.

    Mullen was previously sentenced in March to more than 13 years in federal prison for conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

    According to court documents, Mullen and Duane Dufrene used fictitious entities, falsified tax returns, fraudulent financial statements, and fraudulent appraisals to defraud the lending institutions so they could purchase a home in Jayess, The Briars bed and breakfast in Natchez and two other Natchez hotels.

    On May 13, and Adams County Grand Jury indicted Mullen on three counts of tax evasion and one count of embezzlement.

    Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said Mullens will remain in custody until he beings his federal prison term. After his federal prison term ends, the newspaper reported Mullen will be returned to Adams County to face charges.
