Good Samaritans help deputies capture fleeing fugitive

NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff’s deputies, with the help of some concerned citizens, captured a wanted fugitive Thursday morning.

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said his office received a call at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Thursday for assistance from the Louisiana Bureau of Investigations about a wanted subject they thought to be in the Natchez area.

The fugitive was Chad Dewayne Bouchaund Jr., 25, of Baton Rouge. LBI agents told ACSO Bouchaund was suspected of six counts of pornography involving children under the age of 13, which are felonies, and one count of computer-aided solicitation of a minor, also a felony.

Adams County deputies located Bouchaund in the Dollar General parking lot at 786 U.S. 61 North in Washington.

Deputies detained and handcuffed Bouchaund. When he was patted down, deputies felt what they believed to be a gun in the suspect’s jacket pocket. Bouchaund quickly became resistant and spun away from the deputy, and ran across the parking lot of the neighboring Tractor Supply while the deputies gave chase.

“A good Samaritan saw the suspect fleeing and blocked the suspect off with his truck as another good Samaritan tackled the suspect and knocked his shoes off in the process,” Patten said. “Deputies then retook possession of the suspect and were able to recover a P 365 9MM Sig Sauer from the suspect’s jacket pocket.”

The sheriff said the information on the gun was run through the National Crime Information Center database; it was discovered the weapon in the suspect’s possession had been reported stolen out of Lewisville, Texas.

It was also discovered the suspect in possession of this weapon was also a convicted felon. Bouchaund was transported to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, where he was booked on the following charges: Attempt to escape, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen firearm.

A hold was also placed on Bouchaund for the Louisiana Bureau of Investigations.

Patten said Bouchaund was not alone when deputies made contact with him. Deputies also arrested and transported Tyreik Jayon Webster, 23, to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office for tampering with physical evidence and possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana.

“Everyone involved in these arrests did very well getting these individuals off the streets, but we want to give special thanks to citizens who put themselves at risk to assist our deputies with these captures,” Patten said. “In the age of defunding the police movement, today was a welcomed gesture that shows that the relationship between law enforcement and the citizens in this community is heading in the right direction.”
