NATICK The historic Clark's Block, a prominent downtown building built in 1874 that houses numerous small businesses, has been sold for $6 million, according to R.W. Holmes Commercial Real Estate, which brokered the deal.

The news was first reported by The Real Reporter, an online newspaper that focuses on Greater Boston commercial real estate news.

According to a July 2 press release from Wayland-based R.W. Holmes, Kensington Investment Company Inc. sold the 43,000-square-foot property to an entity called The Clark's Block, LLC, which has an address of 907 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge.

Clark's Block, at the corner of Main and Summer streets, features commercial space on the first floor and office space on its second and third floors.

Among the businesses that lease space at Clark's Block are Optica Opticians, Orange Theory Fitness, Bank of America, apparel store Baylee, Heads Up Hair Salon, Lola's Italian Kitchen & Market, Cilicia Mediterranean Market, The Frame Shop and Gallery, Stucchi Jewelers and gift store Paper Fiesta.

The building is also home to Natick Pegasus, Natick's public access television station.

Clark's Block was built in 1874, immediately following a fire that destroyed 37 buildings in downtown Natick. It previously served as the home for all town government action, including Town Meeting, which was held in a concert hall located on the third floor.

In more recent years, the concert hall has been the subject of preservation efforts, led by the Natick Historical Society.

A plaque that was placed on the building states that the "richly detailed Victorian Italianate structure is a symbolic and unifying element of Natick's remarkably preserved 19th century character."
