CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Lane closures will likely affect traffic on Route 8 next week as the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) replaces highway signs in multiple counties.

Officials said traffic highway signing and exit renumbering will take place on Route 8 in the following towns beginning July 8:

    • Ansonia
    • Bridgeport
    • Derby
    • Shelton
    • Torrington
    • Waterbury
    • Beacon Falls
    • Harwinton
    • Litchfield
    • Naugatuck
    • Seymour
    • Thomaston
    • Trumbull
    • Watertown
    • Winchester

Sections of Route 8 will experience lane closes Monday through Sunday at various times during the span of the project, which is scheduled to be completed November 26, 2024.

    Specific closures include:

    • Route 8 southbound Exit 27 On-Ramp in Naugatuck will be closed from July 8 to Aug. 26.
Traffic will be detoured North onto North Main Street, to the intersection of North Main Street and Union Street then left onto Route 8 Southbound Exit 28 on-ramp.

The work- called CTDOT Project 15-381- aims to replace existing signs which officials said have “less than adequate retro reflectivity, are in poor condition, and do not meet the current standards.”

Crews with The Quaker Corporation will be replacing large overhead and side mounted guide signs, plus smaller signs such as mile markers, exit gore signs, speed limit signs, merge signs, and route confirmation signs.

They’ll also be adding mileage-based exit number signs.

It was awarded to The Quaker Corporation for $9,946,298.50 on October 8, 2022 and is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 3 in New Haven, according to CTDOT.
