Bloomington to install heat sensors to limit health risks
Bloomington will begin installing sensors around the city on Monday to measure heat and prevent related health issues. Data from the 13 sensors will inform the city where to focus heat mitigation. Bloomington Assistant Director of Sustainability Shawn Miya said areas without greenery can be up to 20 degrees hotter than areas with foliage.

This month’s Bedford Park Program will be a historical walk during which participants can learn about one of Bedford’s oldest sections of town. Marla Jones and Teena Ligman will lead the walk through the Zahn Historic District, just south of the downtown square. In his second year with the Indiana Pacers, small forward Aaron Nesmith enjoyed the best campaign of his career. The South Carolina native appeared in 72 games and started 47 of them. On the year, Nesmith averaged 12.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. Additionally, he shot 49.6% from the field and 41.9% from the three-point line. Fire Incident at State Road 58 and 700 E in Elnora
The Elnora Fire Department, along with multiple units, responded to a trailer fire at the intersection of State Road 58 and 700 E in Elnora yesterday. The call was received at 1:29 PM, reporting a trailer loaded with hay on fire. Units from various departments, including the Elnora Volunteer Fire Department, Madison, and Plainville, were dispatched to the scene. The fire was eventually controlled, and the scene was cleared by 6:22 p.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The responsible party has been tasked with cleaning the hay off the roadway.

Washington School Board Adds Veteran Officers as School Resource Officers
The Washington School Board has added two veteran police officers as school resource officers. At Thursday’s meeting, the board hired Todd Church and Mark Hudson as school resource officers at the elementary school. Church retired from the Washington Police Department as Chief of Police. Hudson is also a retired officer and has volunteered in the Washington system for several years. WPD officer Colin Cornelius will continue as the SRO at the WHS-WJHS complex.
