Similar increases have been observed nationally as well—according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the incidence of Lyme disease in the U.S. has approximately doubled since 1991.

Akron Zoo hosts Chillin’ at the Zoo ice cream tasting on July 27
What a way to cap National Ice Cream Month: The Akron Zoo will play host to its annual Chillin’ at the Zoo ice cream tasting event on July 27 from 6-9 p.m. Ice cream stations will be set up throughout the park that feature fun flavors, like Campfire Toasted S’mores and Cupcake. Tickets include four samples of ice cream, admission to the zoo after hours, animal encounters and other activities. Free carousel rides on the Conservation Carousel also are available.

The tragic mass shooting that took place on June 2nd in Akron left 30 individuals injured. Sadly, La’Teris Cook was the only victim who did not survive the attack. According to his family, they are currently grappling with the challenge of adjusting to their new normal while they patiently wait for the authorities to apprehend the individual responsible for the situation.
Ellerhorst Dental Opens in Mantua
Dr. Lydia Ellerhorst was born and raised in Garrettsville. She began her education at Mount Union, completing her dental degree at The Ohio State University. Afterward, she served in the United States Army Dental Corps from 2009 to 2014. “It was five years of hard work, caring for the dental needs of soldiers in and out of deployment.” During that time, she saw eight patients a day, five days a week. While in the Army Dental Corp, Dr. Ellerhorst also completed an Advanced General Dentistry Residency program at Fort Bragg NC, graduating in 2012. She and her family returned to Garrettsville shortly afterward. For the last seven years, she’s worked at a dental clinic in Courtland.
