The Sacramento Kings and DeMar DeRozan have agreed to a three-year, $74 million sign-and-trade deal in NBA free agency. The Kings aimed to bring DeRozan aboard to form a formidable trio with De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, complemented by Keegan Murray.

Sacramento will send Harrison Barnes and an unprotected 2031 pick swap to the San Antonio Spurs as part of the transaction. Additionally, Chris Duarte, two second-round draft picks, and cash will be traded to the Chicago Bulls.

DeRozan, 34, has continued to produce for the Chicago Bulls over the past three seasons, earning an All-Star selection in the first two years of his tenure. However, he averaged 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists last season—still showcasing an impressive impact.

On Saturday, DeRozan traveled to Sacramento to meet with team officials and head coach Mike Brown, who recently extended his contract following two consecutive winning seasons, a first for the Kings since 2006.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: DeMar DeRozan, Chicago Bulls, Sacramento Kings Updates

The Toronto Raptors selected DeRozan ninth overall as a seasoned veteran in the 2009 NBA Draft. Over his 15-season career, he has played for the Toronto Raptors, Spurs, and Bulls, averaging 21.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.

The Spurs will integrate Barnes alongside free agent Chris Paul and unanimous Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama. Barnes played all 82 games in the past two seasons for the Kings, averaging 12.2 points and three rebounds last season. He shot 47.4% overall and 38.7% from three-point range.

The Spurs will use their remaining cap space to incorporate Barnes into their roster. The goal is to continue to surround Wembanyama with more veteran players who unselfishly play the game to help further his development. With the rest of the young players on the team continuing to develop, having Paul and Barnes should only help.

Duarte averaged 3.9 points in 59 games last season for the Kings, who acquired him from the Indiana Pacers last summer in exchange for two second-round picks. He will look to capitalize on his opportunity with the Bulls after struggling to find a home in the NBA.

Following this move, the Kings are $5.1 million below the luxury tax threshold and plan to remain under it by signing two veteran minimum players.
