Stephen Curry’s Future Reaches NBA Spotlight After Controversial Comment

The longest-tenured player on one NBA team currently is Stephen Curry. After his days at Davidson, Curry became synonymous with the Golden State Warriors. And has been the catalyst to one of the greatest dynasties of the modern era. In eight years, he took the team to 6 Finals appearances, winning four times. However, the last few years haven’t been kind to them.

Whether the dismal regular season showing led to a second-round rout by the Los Angeles Lakers or the Warriors missing the playoffs in their entirety last year, the sun is near setting on the Warriors’ core. That became wildly clear once the offseason rolled around.

What was once an unimaginable travesty is now just a part of reality. Klay Thompson, lifelong Warrior and Splash Brother extraordinaire, is now a Dallas Maverick.

Thanks to some less-than-favorable contract negotiations, the 5-time All-Star could not come to an agreement with the team. As a result, Steph walks into the next season without his usual running mate. For many, that was the first sign that all might not be okay in The Bay. Due to the terrible results in back-to-back seasons, the departure of Klay, and a less-than-ideal roster around him, talk of Wardell moving out of Golden State has been heating up.

And, it looks like the thoughts haven’t escaped the notice of the 2022 Finals MVP either.

Did Stephen Curry drop the first hint that Warriors tenure could end?

During the training and exhibition games for the Paris Olympics, Steph has been among the few bright spots on the team. Alongside fellow Cleveland native LeBron James, the team has found a way to go 5-0. But, during that stretch, rumors of a potential partnership between the two also became commonplace. Their chemistry on the court is off the charts, and off the court, the two’s relationship seems to be growing by the day.

Nick Wright, a Fox Sports media member, made a proclamation that the two would definitely team up to finish off their careers. While he did not specify a location, his best bet was on the Charlotte Hornets. Earlier, such a possibility would likely be seen as impossible. But, with Golden State and the Lakers continuing to struggle, while LeBron and Steph still provide MVP-caliber seasons, a team-up looks far more likely today. And, as it turns out, Curry isn’t happy with being a “bottom-feeder.”

I’m taking it one step at a time to be honest. I think that’s the only way that will protect my happiness. Also, it allows me to enjoy being myself when I’m out there playing. And I’ll continue to make the decisions that are best for me and for my career at the end of the day when it comes to just the imagination. I want to win,” Curry said. “Let’s put it this way, it’s a longwinded way of saying that it if it is a situation where you’re a bottom feeder and it’s just because you want to stay there, I’d have a hard time with that. But I don’t think that’s going to be the reality.”

For a player who has been with the team since 2009, that answer isn’t ideal for Golden State fans. Rather than a vehement denial, the answer puts the future of Steph Curry’s NBA career even more into focus.

If the new moves made by the Warriors can make them competitive again, the speculations quieten down. Similarly, the pressure from the four-time NBA Champion could be a scare tactic. As a result, the front office could look into the Lauri Markkanen trade, and the 10-time All-Star would have a new running mate.
