Miami Heat Linked To Blockbuster Trade For Eastern Conference Star

The Miami Heat clearly need more if they want to seriously vault themselves back into NBA championship contention. More specifically, they need offense.

So it comes as no surprise that Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz has listed Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young as one of the top potential trade targets for the Heat heading into the 2024-25 season.

Young is widely viewed as a trade candidate with the Hawks continuing to struggle.

He has two years remaining on his deal and then a player option during the summer of 2026, one that he will almost certainly decline.

As a result, Atlanta may ultimately decide to cash in on him now to facilitate a rebuild.

Young has lost a bit of his luster the past couple of seasons, but he remains a dynamic offensive threat who averaged 25.7 points and 10.8 assists per game on 43.0/37.3/85.5 shooting splits this past year.

Oddly enough, Young—who is known for his unlimited range—has only connected on 35.5 percent of his long-range attempts for his career, but there is no doubt that he instills fear into his opponents due to his penchant for going on scoring binges.

What do the Miami Heat have to trade for Trae Young?

The problem for the Heat is that they don’t exactly have a ton of trade assets.

They do have Jaime Jaquez Jr., but outside of that, Miami does not have a whole lot to offer. Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro would be candidates to be included in any deal for Young in order to match salaries, but neither player is exactly a tantalizing option for the Hawks.

The Heat find themselves in a rather precarious position. Jimmy Butler is preparing to hit free agency next offseason, and word on the street is that he may end up bolting South Beach.

That may make it difficult for Miami to lure any stars at the moment, and again, the Heat don’t really have a whole lot that other teams would want.
