Brooklyn Nets Could Target This Young Rising Star In Trade

The Brooklyn Nets are in rebuilding mode, and they have gotten off to a great start by offloading Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks for a massive haul of draft picks earlier this NBA offseason.

Could the Nets continue to wheel and deal?

Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus has identified a potentially perfect trade target for Brooklyn: Indiana Pacers wing Bennedict Mathurin.

Mathurin is preparing to enter his third NBA season and is coming off of a 2023-24 campaign in which he was limited to 59 games due to injury. During his time on the floor, he averaged 14.5 points and four rebounds over 26.1 minutes a night on 44.6/37.4/82.1 shooting splits.

The 22-year-old didn’t show a ton of progress after his rookie year, but it’s clear that he still has considerable potential moving forward.

Of course, whether or not the Pacers would consider moving Mathurin is the question.

Indiana would really have no reason to trade Mathurin unless it was getting a star player in return, and the Nets don’t really have that to offer.

Will the Brooklyn Nets make any moves this season?

The Nets have been rumored to be interested in trading more pieces. Cam Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith are two players who have been speculated as potential trade candidates, but nothing concrete has formulated along that front.

Brooklyn could also move Dennis Schroder, who could be a perfect fit on a contender thanks to his microwave scoring ability.

Really, the Nets’ primary goal should be to accumulate draft capital and young, talented players. They can attempt to make some more moves this offseason, or they can do it during the season.

Whatever the case, Brooklyn is still trying to recover after the Kevin Durant-Kyrie Irving debacle, and the Bridges trade was certainly a great start.
