Brooklyn Nets Named Worst Trade Fit For This Superstar

The Brooklyn Nets have not exactly had a busy NBA offseason, as they are still reeling from the Kevin Durant-Kyrie Irving era.

However, the Nets have still found themselves in the headlines in terms of being in the running to land another star player.

There has recently been speculation that Miami Heat wing Jimmy Butler could potentially join Brooklyn in free agency next offseason, and due to the Butler’s flight risk in South Beach, some are also wondering if the Heat will trade him this year.

So, could the Nets represent a potential trade destination for the six-time All-Star?

Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey does not think so.

As a matter of fact, Bailey labeled Brooklyn the worst possible fit for Butler, and his reasoning makes complete sense.

“After reacquiring control of their own 2025 first-round pick and sending Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks, Brooklyn should be in teardown mode,” Bailey wrote. “The 2024-25 season should be about piling up losses and ping-pong balls for the draft lottery.”

The Brooklyn Nets are in rebuilding mode

Bailey is right. Realistically speaking, the Nets have no business pursuing Butler.

Butler is 35 years old and has a very checkered injury history, so Brooklyn would be taking on a massive risk by trading valuable assets for him.

The Nets already traded Bridges earlier this offseason, so going out and acquiring Butler—with some of the came capital it landed in return for Bridges, no less—wouldn’t make much sense.

Plus, it seems somewhat hard to believe that Butler—who is still without an NBA title—would want to join Brooklyn at this stage.

As Bailey says, the Nets should focus on their rebuild rather than concerning themselves with which aging star they should add next. They’ve already been down that road multiple times over the last decade-plus, and it hasn’t exactly panned out for them.
