Memphis Grizzlies Land All-Star In Blockbuster Trade Proposal

    By Matthew Schmidt,

The Memphis Grizzlies had a rough year last NBA season, winning just 27 games in spite of being expected to contend in the Western Conference.

Of course, the primary reason for the Grizzlies’ ineptitude last year was injuries, but now, they are getting healthy and dangerous heading into the 2024-25 campaign.

But what does Memphis need to do to truly establish itself as a championship contender?

Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes has suggested that the Grizzlies trade for New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram, proposing a deal that would send Marcus Smart, Brandon Clarke, a first-round pick and a second-rounder to the Pelicans in exchange for the former All-Star.

Ingram is entering the final year of his deal and is widely viewed as a trade candidate. He is coming off of a 2023-24 season in which he averaged 20.8 points, 5.7 assists and 5.1 rebounds over 32.9 minutes per game on 49.2/35.5/80.1 shooting splits.

The 27-year-old has spent the last five seasons of his career in New Orleans and made the All-Star team during his debut campaign with the club in 2019-20.

Can the Memphis Grizzlies truly make an NBA Finals run?

The Grizzlies rattled off back-to-back 50-win seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23, including a 56-win campaign in the former year.

With Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane in tow, Memphis has one of the most electrifying trios in the league. But is it enough to make a finals run?

The Western Conference will be rough this coming season, with the Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets all vying for supremacy.

The Grizzlies are talented enough to work themselves into the mix, but whether or not they can match the chemistry of the other squads remains to be seen.
