Washington Wizards, Saddiq Bey Agree to Deal

With the attention of basketball fans turning to the Summer Leagues, the Washington Wizards have turned some focus back to NBA Free Agency. On Wednesday night, they agreed to a deal with forward Saddiq Bey.

As shared by NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Washington Wizards and Saddiq Bey have agreed to a three-year, $20 million deal. His agents at Excel Basketball, James Dunleavy and Jordan Gertler, revealed the update to ESPN.

Landing a multi-year deal is pretty solid for Saddiq Bey, who unfortunately tore his ACL late in the 2023-24 season playing for the Atlanta Hawks. The last time we saw him on the court was March 10th, which puts his availability for the 2024-25 season in question.

Still only 25 years old, this is a shrewd move by the Washington Wizards. Not ready to contend any time soon, they can give Saddiq Bey the time that he needs to fully recover from his ACL injury as there is no pressure to return to the court.

That is the luxury of being able to land a multi-year deal despite suffering an injury that could keep you sidelined for an entire season. This is also a homecoming for the Villanova product, who played high school basketball at DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland.

In 63 games with the Hawks last season, Saddiq Bey averaged 13.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He originally began his career with the Detroit Pistons as the No. 19 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

One elite skill that he will bring to the Washington Wizards once healthy is corner 3-point shooting. He has ranked in the top 10 of 3-pointers made from the corner over the last four seasons.
