COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – People affected by disaster-related losses due to the fatal March 14 tornadoes can now apply for assistance from the federal government.

Homeowners and renters in Auglaize, Crawford, Darke, Delaware, Hancock, Licking, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Richland, and Union counties can call, go online, or use an app to file their claims with FEMA.

People with insurance should file a claim with their insurance company; those whose coverage isn’t enough or are uninsured should apply for the FEMA assistance.

FEMA assistance can include temporary housing, basic home repairs, and other related expenses.

In a press release announcing the assistance, Darke County recommends those people who have started or already made repairs should still apply for relief.

Anyone filing for relief should have the following available:

    • A current phone number where you can be contacted
    • Your address at the time of the disaster and address where are now staying
    • Your social security number
    • A general list of damage and losses
    • Banking information if you choose direct deposit
    • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name

Three people died when a line of strong storms and multiple tornados tore through central Ohio on March 14; the lives were lost when an EF-3 tornado touched down in the Indian Lake area of Logan County.

To apply for FEMA assistance, visit www.disasterassistance.gov , download the FEMA mobile app , or call the FEMA hotline at 800-621-3362. FEMA officials will visit each area at a later date to offer more assistance.
