COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — Tomorrow is the second annual 614 Funk Fest, taking place at the Columbus Commons.

The festival shines a light on that genre with many different performers, even including a group from Ohio.

Performers like Zapp and Morris Day will take the stage tomorrow so we can hear some of their classic hits.

The production company, “Fame Productions,” started this show to give people a chance to enjoy artists and bands that have pioneered funk music. Groups like Zapp started in Ohio in the 1970s and ’80s, and Zapp is known as one of the genre’s originators.

Tomorrow night highlights that legacy but acts as a homecoming for the group. Bobby Furguson, the founder of Fame Productions, said he hopes these artists continue to come and showcase their talents every year.

“It’s super exciting, you know when we when we birthed 614 Funk Fest last year, we had Zapp, Cameo and S.O.S. Band. From that moment on, I said, indefinitely until Funk Fest is over Zapp will always be on Funk Fest,” Furguson said.

It was important to Furguson to bring this moment to so many fans here in Columbus, and he said he knows what this means to him as well.

“To be organized by African American production company, to really reach the community, I think we go really deep into the community,” he said. “We bring folks from all sides of town to come here, even from the suburbs. But it’s just such a great space and I heard it’s going to be a beautiful day.”

The event starts at 4 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. A link for how to attend can be found here .
