GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The man at the center of the Michigan Wolverines’ sign-stealing scandal has resurfaced with a new role.

The Detroit News is reporting Connor Stalions has joined Detroit’s Mumford High School as a volunteer and will serve as the team’s defensive coordinator. WOOD-TV reached out to the Mumford Athletic Department for confirmation but did not receive an immediate response.

Coach William McMichael told the News that he met Stalions during his son’s recruiting process.

“He’s outstanding. I think he knows Michigan’s defense just as well as anyone else who was there with (former defensive coordinator Jesse) Minter and all of those guys,” McMichael said. “He’s great with the kids, has an outstanding football mind and we’re learning a lot — not just the kids, but the coaching staff.”

Stalions was hired by Michigan’s football program as a recruiting analyst in 2022. He resigned last November after allegations surfaced that he was leading a network of people recording the opposing team’s sideline signals.

Former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh was suspended for three games by the Big Ten last season despite the coach claiming no knowledge of Stalions’ alleged infractions and no formal investigation. Without Harbaugh and Stalions and while under a national spotlight, the Wolverines still managed to go 15-0, win their third consecutive Big Ten title and beat Washington for the program’s first national championship since 1997.

Stalions has yet to publicly address the accusations, but that will change soon. He will be the main subject of a Netflix documentary set to premiere later this month.

An episode called “Sign Stealer” will serve as part of the fourth season of the series “Untold.” The episode was directed by Micah Brown and will debut on Aug. 27.
