COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — A Mexican restaurant with many Columbus locations is setting up shop in the building that once housed a well-known taco chain.

The former Local Cantina in the Short North will become an El Vaquero in the near future. A sign recently posted outside of the 600 N. High St. building revealed the Mexican restaurant is coming soon, but it did not give a date for the opening.

Since its first Mexican restaurant was opened in Upper Arlington over 30 years ago, El Vaquero has opened a plethora of storefronts in the Columbus area and beyond. The Short North spot will mark its 21st location, with 11 of those being in or around Columbus, including in Dublin, Gahanna and Hilliard. It also has locations in other parts of Ohio and in Michigan.

The Local Cantina closed in mid-June, but the chain did not provide a reason. There are still 12 locations in central Ohio, including in Clintonville, Grandview Heights and Upper Arlington. It also has shops in Dayton and a few hundred miles to the south in Florida.
