LEWIS CENTER, Ohio ( WCMH ) — Olentangy Liberty High School enhanced its safety protocols Friday after a student found a round of ammunition inside the school building.

In a message from Liberty principal Mike Starner, parents were assured there was no proof of a threat. Starner said a student alerted a teacher after finding a round of ammunition on the floor of a building staircase, and said that teacher immediately alerted administration and the school’s resource officer.

Starner said there is no evidence of a threat to any individual or the school at large, but said extra patrols have been issued for the high school and nearby area to be safe, as has a threat assessment investigation. Classes continued on a normal schedule, and no lockdown was issued.

“Building administration, the school SRO, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) and Olentangy’s safety and security team immediately enacted safety protocols and a threat assessment,” the district said in a joint statement with DCSO. “The DCSO is fully investigating the matter.”

According to the sheriff’s office, an investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Starner said the district is grateful the student came forward, and encouraged students, staff and community members to always do the same. He said people can also report concerns via it’s Stay Safe.
