COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — Volunteers with the Mid-Ohio Food Collective harvested more than 1,000 heads of lettuce, tomatoes, garlic and peppers from the Mid-Ohio Farm at NBC4 to give to neighbors.

Volunteers spent several hours along Riverside Drive, handing out the fresh produce to new Americans living in the area.

Farm manager Allison Davis said Friday’s project is the epitome of what farm-to-table means.

“It’s amazing — it’s very much that farm-to-table and fresher produce than we get from the grocery store,” Davis said. “I mean, this stuff was harvested hours ago.”

Davis said produce giveaways are important to help uplift the community and make sure everyone has access to fresh, health food.

“These are a mark of success for what we do at the farm because it shows,” Davis said. “Being able to put food directly into people’s hands is an amazing opportunity.”
