COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — A 55-year-old pedestrian has died after he was hit by a stolen car in north Columbus early Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to the scene at around 1:04 a.m. on Wednesday in the 800 block of E. 5th Avenue, according to the Columbus Division of Police. Malvin Love, 55, was found and pronounced dead at 1:11 a.m., while the stolen 2012 Toyota Camry was located less than a mile away and unoccupied.

Authorities said Love was crossing E. 5th Avenue when the Camry was driving westbound and approaching Peters Avenue. The Camry struck Love, knocking him down E. 5th Avenue and into the second eastbound lane, but continued driving.

Witnesses told police that the Camry’s driver exited the car while it was still moving and fled on foot down Lexington Avenue. The Camry continued moving westbound until it came to rest near a White Castle.

Police confirmed that the car was stolen several weeks ago, but do not have a description of the suspect, and are asking anyone with information to call 614-645-4545.
