COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — A Grandview Heights gym broke a sweat to help men with prostate cancer.

Avenue X Fitness held its second annual field day benefitting Brave Men Inc., a foundation started by late Ohio State football legend Dimitrious Stanley — Thursday would have been his 50th birthday.

Stanley started the organization after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2019.

His widow Jessica Stanley, the organization’s executive director, said Brave Men Inc. works to encourage men to talk about prostate cancer and all of the issues that come with it.

The organization distributes “Brave Boxes” filled with supplies men need after surgery to ten healthcare facilities across Ohio and Michigan.

For Jessica, it’s a way to keep her husband’s spirit alive.

“I know he’s here with us and me and my girls, especially,” she said. “It’s really important to keep this going. I made a promise to him to keep it going and it’s the best way to honor him and find a purpose.”

Brave Men Inc. will hold another benefit event on Oct. 17 in Marysville at Leon’s Garage. For more information, click here .
