COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) is promoting the democratic process and also saluting our veterans.

For the sixth year in a row, COTA is letting all customers ride for free on Election Day, Nov. 5, with all fares being waived.

Check NBC 4’s election guild to find your polling location to plan your trip.

COTA said the free rides are meant to remove any potential barriers to voters making their voices heard.

On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, all veterans and active duty military members can ride COTA buses for free. They just have to show their military-issued ID to the driver. They can also wear a veterans’ hat or article of clothing, or they can just verbally identify themselves as a veteran or active duty member.

Veterans are also eligible for half-off discounts on all COTA fares every single day.

They can apply for the benefit at the COTA customer experience center at 33 North High Street.

The discount can be added to their Transit ZIP account or they can receive a COTA Smart Card. Proof of veteran or active status is required.
