COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – A teenaged girl is dead after a reported shooting in west Columbus late Wednesday night.

According to Columbus police, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of South Eureka Avenue in the Hilltop just after 10:30 p.m. A person who called in the emergency said a female accidentally shot herself inside the residence, although police said they have an additional suspect.

Police found a juvenile female victim, 16-year-old Carlie Frizzell, suffering from a gunshot wound. Columbus Division of Fire medics took her to a nearby hospital in critical condition, and Frizzell was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m.

A gun was found at the scene and homicide detectives were called to investigate after police said the shooting included suspicious circumstances. Police said a suspect, who is known to Frizzell, has been identified, but will not be named until the investigation is presented to the Franklin County Prosecutor.

Police said a preliminary investigation determined the gunshot happened after a firearm was accidentally discharged. They say the prosecutor’s office will determine if any criminal charges will be filed.
