Pregnancy and infant loss awareness walk draws hundreds to Columbus park

COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – More than 400 people gathered at Genoa Park on Saturday morning for the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance and Awareness Walk.

“The walk itself is a statement to see all of the people that gathered,” said Dr. Michael Bullock, president of Miles’ Mission. “This is our first year collaborating and doing this and to know that we had over 400 people is amazing.”

The walk was hosted by several local organizations including Miles’ Mission which was created by NBC4’s Jennifer Bullock and her family after her son Miles was stillborn in 2021. After experiencing that grief firsthand, they created the charity to support other families going through similar tragedies.

“It’s a continual process,” said Dr. Bullock, who is also Jennifer’s father. “It’s a continual journey dealing with grief and learning how to live again.”

Three years after losing Miles, his memory lives on through events like this walk. The Bullock family wants to show other families that they aren’t alone and direct them on a path of healing.

“Even though it’s sometimes a somber conversation about child loss, this is also a time of hope, healing and celebration of all of these organizations and families who have championed the cause,” Dr. Bullock said.

Miles’ Mission partnered up with Columbus Public Health, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Alive in My Heart to make the event happen. Along with wanting to support for families, the groups also wanted to raise awareness for the work they have been doing like pushing for legislation and funding research

“There’s a lot that still needs to be done and a lot of work that we are doing,” said Dr. Bullock.
