COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — A driver is in critical condition after two cars crashed and caught fire in southeast Columbus on Saturday night.

A white Ford van was driving west on U.S. Route 33 at about 10:34 p.m. on Saturday when a grey Toyota 4 Runner was traveling east on U.S. 33, turning north onto Bixby Road. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said the Toyota turned left in front of the Ford, causing the van to strike the Toyota.

The Toyota ended up facing south across both lanes of U.S. 33, while the van went off the north side of the road and came to rest in a ditch. Both cars then caught fire. The driver of the Toyota was pulled from the car before the fire could reach the passenger compartment, and the driver of the Ford was out of the car before the fire.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital in critical condition while the driver of the Ford was taken in stable condition.

The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the crash.

This is why all crossroads need to be eliminated on 33. You can not have highway speeds with crossing cars. People suck at judging distance and speed, then BAM!!!!
