COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — Moody Nolan announced on Monday the death of its founder and chairman Curtis Moody.

The Columbus-based architecture firm has worked on or outright designed airports, libraries, the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, banks, schools, university buildings, and a host of standout buildings throughout the country.

Moody Nolan, now with more than 350 employees in offices in 12 cities, was powered by a man who once played basketball for Ohio State.

Curtis “Curt” Moody grew up in Columbus and attended the old North High School.

Former Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman knew Moody well. They first crossed paths when Moody was working for a local architect, John Koch.

“John introduced me to Curt Moody and said, ‘This is one of my stars,’ and who knew back in the early 1980s that that star at that time would turn into a bright sun?” Coleman said.

In business, Moody was a giant. In 1982, he and his business partner founded Moody Nolan in Columbus. The firm’s work has contributed to some notable buildings throughout central Ohio and the country, including the Schottenstein Center, the International African American Museum in Charleston, South Carolina, and in progress, the new terminal at John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

“He did so much in his life and it’s just terrible to see him leave so soon because I know he had more to give and what he left behind is something we should cherish and value,” Coleman said.

The firm said Moody died on Sunday. A cause of death has not been released.

Went to school with his son Jonathan. Always amazed me how he lived in the biggest house of everyone in school and was so humble. He left a lot of beautiful architecture here for us to enjoy seeing. Rest well. You earned it. 😔🤲🏽👁️
