COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – A cyclist is in critical condition after they were struck by a truck that fled the scene on Friday morning.

At 2:58 a.m., an adult was riding a bicycle southbound on South High Street at Fornof Road in the Scioto Southland neighborhood. At the same time, a driver was heading in the same direction on South High Street and struck the rear of the bicycle, according to the Columbus Division of Police. The driver did not stop after the collision.

The impact threw the cyclist to the ground where they hit their head, police said. They were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Front bumper and passenger side mirror parts were left behind from the car. Police describe the vehicle as a 2005 to 2011 Toyota Tacoma.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Police asked anyone with information to contact them at 614-645-4545 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip line at 614-461-8477.
