COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The Columbus Division of Fire is investigating a fire that caused heavy damage to a recreation center on the east side of the city Thursday night.

According to Chief Jeffrey Geitter, a fire broke out at the 200 block of North Ohio Avenue at the Beatty Community Recreation Center in Beatty Park, next to Champion Middle School. Crews arrived in response to a fire alarm at 10:41 p.m. and the building was not occupied at that hour.

Officials did not offer information about specific damages, but confirmed there are no injuries from the blaze, which remains under investigation.
