Serco Books $323M Army Contract for Facility Repairs, Upgrades
Serco‘s North American business will perform facility repairs and upgrades under a $323 million contract from the U.S. Army. The firm-fixed-price award will run through Sept. 30, 2028, its expected completion date, and will have work done by the Herndon, Virginia-based contractor in Greenland, the Department of Defense said Friday.

Cowan Boulevard Sewer Main Repairs Continue
Partial Intermittent Closure of Cowan Boulevard Expected This Fall. On the evening of December 31st, 2023, the City’s Department of Public Works was notified of a sanitary sewer manhole that was discharging behind the shopping center located on the north side of Cowan Boulevard across from the Belmont subdivision. The Department established an emergency pump-around across Cowan Boulevard and through the Belmont Apartment complex to facilitate the emergency repairs. There was a similar failure earlier in December that required a temporary bypass pass be put into operation. The emergency repairs were divided into two phases. The now completed Phase 1 repairs involved replacement or rehabilitation of 5 manholes and installation of approximately 625 feet of new sewer main in the lower portion. Work is now in Phase 2 which involves installation of 1,008 feet of new sewer main (a portion of which crosses under Cowan Boulevard), two new manholes, and rehabilitation of two existing manholes.

Amazon Fresh at Potomac Yard to Open Friday
The Amazon Fresh store at Potomac Yard in Alexandria will open July 25, the company announced. The store, at 3801 Richmond Hwy., takes place of the Shoppers food store, which closed in early 2020. Amazon fresh announced later that year that it had plans to open there, but those plans went on pause in 2023 as Amazon retooled the format and product mix of Amazon Fresh Stores, and reconsidered some of its real estate deals.
