Women singers invited to visit Fox Valley Chorus rehearsals

The Fox Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines International will celebrate Barbershop Music Appreciation Day, July 13, at its regular Tuesday evening rehearsal on July 9.

Women singers are always welcome to visit rehearsals, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays in Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Church St., Neenah. Use door No. 2 on Doty Avenue. Prior musical experience or ability to read music is not necessary.

The appreciation day was started in 2005 as a way to commemorate the Sweet Adelines’ day of founding in 1945. The organization has grown to be one of the world’s largest singing groups for women, boasting nearly 21,000 members.

The Fox Valley Chorus is the current champion of its Northern Lights Region and will represent the region on the Sweet Adeline International stage in Columbus, Ohio, next year.

Program offers information on new district boundaries

The League of Women Voters chapters of Appleton-Fox Cities, Winnebago County and the state will offer a program on the new district boundaries ahead of the Aug. 13 primary and Nov. 5 general election.

The program will be held 6:30 to 8 p.m. July 11 in the Shattuck Room of the Neenah Public Library, 240. E. Wisconsin Ave. The program is free and open to everyone.

Maps of the former districts and the new districts will be available.

The new Wisconsin legislative maps, which are the result of a 15-year campaign against the practice of gerrymandering, will make legislators more accountable to their constituents. Information on the next steps toward a permanent nonpartisan process for redistricting also will be discussed.

Photography workshops offered at Neenah library

The Neenah Public Library will host a series of walking photography workshops beginning July 24.

Appleton-based Photo Opp experts will offer instruction at 6 p.m. Wednesdays, July 24, 31, Aug. 7 and 14. Meet outside the library’s front entrance.

Participants should bring any camera (smartphone, digital, analog, instant, etc.) to learn photography tips. The workshops are drop-in session and registration is not required.
